A prominent member of the British royal family is facing legal action from Sentebale, the African children’s charity he helped establish, marking a dramatic escalation in an ongoing dispute that has captured public attention.
The organization has filed defamation proceedings in London’s High Court, naming the Duke and former trustee Mark Dyer as defendants in what represents the latest chapter of a bitter conflict following the royal’s departure as patron.
The legal battle stems from a public disagreement between the Duke and the charity’s chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka, which erupted after his resignation from the patronage role last year.

Representatives for the Duke and Dyer have strongly rejected these allegations, describing them as both offensive and damaging. In August 2025, the Charity Commission issued criticism regarding how the dispute was handled publicly, though it cleared the Duke of racism allegations.
